QuickCheck: Was a viral video of a road rage incident filmed in Kuching?


A VIRAL video is making the rounds of social media, showing two men grappling on the road amid heavy traffic.

The accompanying post claims that the incident happened on Jalan Pending in Kuching after a motorist failed to give way to a lorry.

Is it true that the road rage-fuelled tussle happened in Kuching?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Kuching OCPD Asst Comm Ahsimon Bajah confirmed the incident, saying that police had received a report that the incident had gone viral on social media.

"Investigations showed that the fight was caused after a lorry driver was unhappy that he had not been allowed to merge with traffic," ACP Ahsimon said in a statement.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 506 of the same code.

In another statement, he said that a team of officers from the Kuching police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had arrested a 46-year-old suspect in connection with the incident.

"The suspect tested negative for drugs, and he has no criminal record. He is being held in the Kuching police headquarters lockup for now." ACP Ahsimon said.

He added that the investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.
