Customs seize liquor worth RM1.2mil

PASIR MAS: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department seized 24,500 litres worth of liquor in a raid at a warehouse in Shah Alam on April 25.

Kelantan Customs director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long said the seizure was conducted by a Rantau Panjang enforcement team, assisted by the Customs’ Cobra team, after receiving a tipoff.

"The raid was conducted on an unnumbered warehouse along Jalan Haji Osman Kampung Batu 6, Shah Alam, Selangor at 8.30pm on April 25.

"During the raid, the liquor was being loaded into four lorries,” he said during a media conference at the Rantau Panjang Customs Enforcement Office here on Monday (May 6). He added that the liquor had been smuggled into the country through Port Klang, Selangor, without valid import procedures.

"The seizure is among the biggest for Kelantan Customs in the past four years, and Customs teams from any state can act according to information and complaints even if the case occurs in other states,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1867 and Section 74(1)(c) of the Excise Act 1976. – Bernama
