Former Sabah journalist leaves gift of sight to duo

Former journalist and English teacher Kriscy Limjoon is the first organ donor in Sabah this year.

KOTA KINABALU: A former journalist has become Sabah’s first organ donor this year.

Kriscy Limjoon, who was attached to the English section of the now-defunct Borneo Mail newspaper, passed away due to medical complications in January.

The 43-year-old mother of two had spoken to her family about her desire to donate her organs but never managed to officially register as a donor.

"Only her corneas were deemed suitable for donation, and her family consented," Sabah Health director Dr Asits Sanna said on the department's official Facebook page Friday (May 3).

"The transplanted corneas have been successfully implanted, restoring vision in two patients," he added.

Kriscy, from Kampung Domis Hungab in Penampang, also served as an English teacher at a private school here.

Extending his condolences and highest appreciation to the family for the donation, Dr Asits said Kriscy was known to be a pure-hearted and cheerful yet firm person who was fond of helping others and supporting local businesses.

“The department encourages those wishing to donate organs to discuss it with the loved ones for easier decision-making regarding donations after their passing,” he said.
