Disabled man falls prey to ‘online’ robbery

KOTA KINABALU: A man with speech and hearing impairments was robbed after posting on social media that he wanted to find a job.

A man responded to the 36-year-old’s Facebook post and offered him a “job opportunity”.

The suspect, who was accompanied by two other accomplices, picked up the physically challenged victim at Kampung Ketiau in Putatan, near here, and brought him to Kampung Kopungit, some 12km away.

They then brandished a machete and a knife and relieved him of his mobile phone and bag, which contained personal belongings.

Sabah CID chief Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said one of the suspects was detained within 24 hours at a fuel station at Jalan Tugu, Kampung Air, at about 2pm on Wednesday.

This came after the victim filed a police report on the incident. He said police arrested the suspect, aged 29, who admitted to the robbery with two others.
