Youth Chief: PAS not boycotting Perikatan candidate

HULU SELANGOR: PAS has dismissed claims of boycotting the Perikatan Nasional candidate following the absence of party leaders on the nomination day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Selangor PAS Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar said the central and state machinery of PAS was in the area since the announcement of the Perikatan candidate on April 25.

He accused Pakatan Harapan of playing up the issue to paint the image that Perikatan is not harmonious.

“In reality, the conflict is occurring within the components of the unity government because some are not campaigning in this by-election.

“Perikatan’s efforts in Kuala Kubu Baru have been very harmonious. The PAS machinery is ‘solid’ and will support the Perikatan candidate,” he said at a press conference in Batang Kali yesterday.

“If there was a boycott, surely our machinery would be absent. But today, the entire Selangor and other states, including Pahang, Melaka and Perak, have sent machinery to assist with the campaign,” he added.

Previously, several leaders, including Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, questioned why PAS leaders were not visible in Kuala Kubu Baru, including on the nomination day.

Fahmi highlighted the presence of many leading figures of PAS in Perlis as opposed to Kuala Kubu Baru earlier.

Describing it as somewhat “interesting,” Fahmi Fadzil said he was unsure what PAS leaders were trying to convey with their actions.

However, Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Radzi Jidin has denied these allegations.

“PAS indeed planned their Hari Raya open house in Perlis well in advance,” he said.
