Unnamed senior leader under probe for graft

PUTRAJAYA: Graft investigators have initiated a probe against a state senior leader in the northern region over claims that he has appointed companies linked to him for several projects.

Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the individual is believed to have awarded projects involving supplies with an allocation of RM300,000 to these companies.

It is learnt that the leader is also suspected to have appointed several companies, which his son is said to have an interest in, for maintenance and renovation works involving the Mentri Besar’s Office allocation amounting to RM1mil.

“It is believed that these projects have been monopolised by his son through companies whose licences he has control over,” said a source.

Investigations so far showed that the offence was done between January last year and March this year.

“These companies are also believed to have submitted documents containing false information and are said to have been given 5% of the project value.

“So far, investigators have identified 15 companies,” added the same source.

Sources said these companies were involved in the supply of mineral water, hampers and souvenirs.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Ari Azam Baki confirmed that investigations are being carried out.
