RM2.3mil worth of drugs seized in JB, man arrested

JOHOR BARU: Police have confiscated drugs worth RM2.3mil following the arrest of a 35-year-old man in Taman Pelangi, here.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) made the arrest at 2am on Wednesday (April 24).

“The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, and a background check revealed that the suspect has priors involving drugs and crime.

“Based on the interrogation, the suspect then led the team to a house in Taman Pelangi where he had rented a room to repackage the drugs that he had bought,” he said.

He said this during a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters here on Sunday (April 28).

Comm Kumar added that the suspect's modus operandi is to use the room to store and repack the drugs before selling them to the local entertainment centres and private parties.

“The suspects have been active since February this year, and we believe that other members of the syndicate are still at large,” said Kumar.

The confiscated drugs include 231 packets or 13,570g of ecstasy worth RM2.2mil, 707 ecstasy pills worth RM35,350, 2,465 Erimin 5 pills worth RM49,300, 727g ketamine worth RM36,385 and 12 bottles of juice containing drugs worth RM3,000.

“We have also confiscated two vehicles and cash worth RM650, all worth RM75,650,” he said, adding that the total drugs and items confiscated are worth RM2.4mil.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for drug trafficking.
