Public stop thief on the run with donation box

PETALING JAYA: Members of the public prevented a man from running away with money he had allegedly taken from a donation box in a surau.

Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor, in a statement yesterday, said that the incident occurred on April 19 at around 2.15pm in a surau in Banting.

The complainant spotted a suspicious looking man and approached him.

“He then tried to run towards the back of the surau. Checks at the scene showed that the suspect threw away some cash at the toilet behind the surau.

“He was apprehended by those who were at the surau and was caught with the money stolen from a donation box,” he said.

Items used to break the donation box were also found inside a bag that he was carrying.

“The complainant then handed over the suspect to the authorities for further action.

“Investigations on the 43-year-old suspect showed that he had a record for 11 criminal and narcotics-related offences,” he said, adding that the suspect was remanded for three days.
