KOTA KINABALU: A 60-year-old woman suffered burns when fire destroyed two houses in Kampung Payas-Payas in the state's northern Kota Belud district on Saturday (April 20).

Kota Belud fire station chief Syazwan Latun said the woman was given treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.

He said they received a distress call at 5.20pm and firemen rushed to the scene where the two houses were already on fire.

"We managed to put out the fire (but) both houses were completely destroyed," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 21).

He said the fire was brought under control at 6.22pm and extinguished at 7.33pm.

The cause of the fire in the incident is still under investigation, he added.
