MIC PRESIDENT Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran had stern words for those speculating about a purported challenge against Datuk Seri M. Saravanan for the party’s deputy presidency, Malaysia Nanban reported.
“Saravanan is a loyal and honest man and he will continue as my deputy for as long as I am the MIC president,” he was quoted as telling reporters after the MIC central working committee meeting.
Vigneswaran, who returned unopposed to the top post, criticised those he said were “not connected to the party” and talking about the coming MIC elections.
He also dismissed talk that he had sought the backing of party figures in his bid to hold on to the presidency.
Vigneswaran further stressed that while the deputy post is usually a contested one, “Saravanan must remain in the position and no one will be able to change that”.
The MIC elections for its party posts will commence soon with nominations.
The party’s polls process will continue on a staggered schedule till July.
