Cops arrest 46 individuals in Johor for illegal gambling


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 46 individuals following an operation to crack down on illegal gambling activities throughout Johor.

State police chief Comm M. Kumar said Ops Dadu was carried out on Wednesday (April 17) and focused on online gambling and unlicensed public lottery activities.

“Police carried out raids on 46 premises, which led to the arrest of 46 individuals between the ages of 18 and 64, including seven females where one of them is an Indonesian national.

“We also seized 22 printers, 42 mobile phones, 102 pieces of papers containing gambling bets and cash amounting to RM6,935,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (April 18).

Comm Kumar added that in addition to the raids, police would also cut off the electricity and cancel the business licenses of premises where illegal gambling activities were being held.

He said the operation aimed to give the public confidence that Johor police were committed to addressing illegal gambling activities.

Comm Kumar added that all suspects would be remanded to assist with the investigations under Section 4A(a) of the Open Gambling Act 1953 and Section 4B(a) of the same Act.

“Between January 1 and April 17 this year, 770 raids were conducted, 1,102 individuals were arrested, and RM291,780 in cash was seized under Ops Dadu.

“Johor police will not compromise with any form of unlicensed gambling activities in the state. Total enforcement on such activities would continue to be held,” he said.
