Couple plead guilty to hurting sons


KOTA KINABALU: A couple pleaded guilty yesterday at the Magistrate’s Court here to charges of hurting their two sons.

The woman aged 36, and her husband, 27, entered their pleas before Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry.

The man faced two charges of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Meanwhile, his wife faced one charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

She also faced two charges under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. The punishment for this offence is jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping or both, upon conviction.

Both accused were unrepresented.

Magistrate Flavian set May 17 for the next mention, pending the full medical report on the two victims, aged five and 13.

The man was offered a RM2,500 bail for each of the charges while his wife was given a RM6,000 bail per charge for the offence under Section 324 and RM4,000 bail for the offence under Section 323.

Both of them were unable to post bail.
