Three nabbed for robbing varsity students in Pagoh


MUAR: Three men have been arrested hours after they allegedly robbed four female university students here at knifepoint.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said one of the students reported that two strangers broke into her room at a university in Pagoh here at around 3am on Monday (April 15).

“The victim was in the room with three other friends and the suspects took their valuables while pointing a knife at them. The suspects then fled the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 16).

He added that all four victims, engineering students aged 19 to 24, were unharmed during the incident.

Police then mounted a search for the suspects and captured the first man on the North-South Expressway near the Pagoh exit about six hours after the incident.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that at around 11.40pm, they arrested two more suspects at a residential area in Kulai.

Following the arrest, police seized items including a gold necklace, 17 smartphones and mobile phones, three laptops, two tablet devices, 24 vape pods, two pairs of earphones, a knife and a plastic bag containing 3.15g of powder believed to be syabu, he said.

He added that along with the arrest, police also seized three cars linked to vehicle theft.

“All the three suspects, aged 20 to 22, tested positive for drugs.

“Two of them had 27 and 33 offences respectively on their criminal records.

"The case is being investigated under Sections 395 (gang robbery) and 397 (robbery at knifepoint) of the Penal Code,” he said.

They face jail for up to 20 years and caning upon conviction.
