Trio nabbed on same day for robbery


KOTA KINABALU: Three ex-convicts were arrested the same day after robbing a convenience store while armed with meat cleavers in Inanam here.

The trio, all locals aged between 27 and 29, were picked up separately by a team from the D9 Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sabah police headquarters between 4pm and 5.30pm on Saturday.

State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said the suspects robbed the store at 3.15am. Two of them fled in a car with RM450 in cash.

“The duo were arrested behind the Centre Point Shopping Mall at around 4pm.

“Police seized a few items from them believed to be used in the robbery,” said SAC Azmi.

The third suspect was detained about an hour later at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.He said the trio admitted to committing the crime.

One of the suspects had a previous drug conviction. Another has a record involving drugs, theft and housebreaking. The third has a record related to drugs and housebreaking.

All three were remanded for investigations under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
