Flood not stopping family from paying their respects

FLOODS could not stop a determined family in Kalimantan, Indonesia, from paying their respects at their ancestors’ graves during Qing Ming, Sin Chew Daily reported.

A Facebook user named Lily Wang uploaded photos of her family’s recent trip to a flooded cemetery in Pontianak on March 31 during the Tomb Sweeping Festival.

Despite the area being inundated by water, family members were seen kneeling on the ground and paying respect to the departed.

Offerings such as food, cakes and fruits were placed on top a table, rather than on the ground.

At the end of the ceremony, they burnt joss paper in a wheelbarrow.

It was reported that several places in Pontianak were recently flooded due to torrential rains.

Qing Ming, which fell on April 4 this year, is a traditional Chinese festival devoted to remembering and honouring the deceased.

> The daily also reported that Hong Kong actor Francis Ng was spotted enjoying a popsicle to beat the Malaysian heat during filming recently.

The 62-year-old, who is filming a show in Penang, was photographed holding a red popsicle he bought by the roadside.

After the photo went viral on social media platform Xiaohongshu, the man who sold the popsicle said he did not recognise the movie star.

“Francis Ng came and bought ice-cream from my shop and I did not recognise him,” he wrote, lamenting his missed photo op with the actor.

Many Internet users commented that they would also buy ice-cream from the shop in the hope of bumping into Ng again.

Ng is known for his roles in hit TV series like Triumph in the Skies as well as Young and Dangerous, Once Upon a Time in Triad Society, A Man Called Hero and The Mission.
