Elderly man dies in Klang house fire, brother survives unhurt

SHAH ALAM: An elderly man lost his life while his brother survived a fire that engulfed a Class C residence on Jalan Kereta Api Lama, Batu 9 in Klang, Selangor.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said an emergency call came in at 10.26pm on Tuesday (April 9).

After the blaze was brought under control at 11.23pm, firefighters found the remains of the 79-year-old victim beneath a stack of wood in the house, which was about 90% damaged.

"Another elderly man was rescued unharmed by members of the public," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 10).

He said 15 firefighters from the Kapar, Sungai Pinang and Kota Raja stations took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage, he added. – Bernama
