Allergy can’t keep PM away from Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has kept his promise to visit Penang even though he was suffering from an allergic reaction.

Despite his face, hands and eyes being affected, the Prime Minister arrived around noon yesterday to join the congregation at Masjid Al-Huda in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, for Friday prayers.

He was spotted sporting dark sunglasses throughout his one-day trip in Penang.

“Both of his eyes are affected. He was advised to get some rest actually,” said an aide.

Despite his tight schedule, Anwar also dropped by Komtar at about 2.30pm to meet Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The meeting to discuss development in the state lasted until 4pm.

Among the items on his itinerary were taking part in a Madani Bubur Lambuk event at Masjid Kubang Semang in Bukit Mertajam, a walkabout at the Pasar Awam Ramadan bazaar in Seberang Jaya and the state-level buka puasa event at Universiti Teknologi Mara Penang in Permatang Pauh.

Earlier yesterday, Anwar also attended a signing ceremony between Amanah Raya Bhd and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) in a strategic deal for Rumah Mesra Rakyat homeowners to receive legacy planning products.

The collaborative strategic agreement is set to benefit eligible Malaysians with household incomes below RM5,000 who purchase SPNB’s Rumah Mesra Rakyat.

Anwar has been going around the country to meet the people and attend breaking-fast events in conjunction with Ramadan.

During his visits, he would also meet state leaders to get briefings on each state’s development.
