Child abuse: Man nabbed for allegedly slapping, twisting toddler’s ears


JEMPOL: Police have detained a 35-year-old mechanic for allegedly causing injury to his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter.

Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said police detained the suspect after the victim's grandmother lodged a report.

"The suspect had earlier taken the victim out to buy groceries in Bahau alone around 8.30pm but when he sent her back to her grandparents home later, she was crying.

"It was then the grandmother noticed injuries to the victim's lips, ears and swelling on her left arm," he said.

Supt Hoo said the grandmother tried to call the victim's mother to ask what caused the injuries but was unable to get through.

Supt Hoo said a medical examination on the victim showed she suffered injuries to her left ear drum, both ears, lips, face and left arm.

"The girl has since been warded at the Kuala Pilah Hospital for treatment," he said.

He said upon questioning, the suspect who had been going out with the victim's mother for the past three months admitted to slapping and twisting the girl's ears.

"The suspect said he became upset when the victim refused to get out of his car and for biting his finger till it bled," he said.

Supt Hoo said police had obtained an order to remand the suspect till April 10.

The case was being probed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years or fined up to RM50,000 or both upon conviction.
