Thai boy found drowned in Sg Golok


KOTA BARU: An 11-year-old Thai boy was found drowned in Sungai Golok on the Malaysia-Thailand border Monday (April 1) night.

The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement that it received a distress call at 6.18pm informing them that the victim, from Kampung Ibrahim Pencen in Rantau Panjang, had gone missing at the river.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted led by operations commander senior fire officer Azmi Jaafar, who was also assisted by the Thai police and border residents.

"A Thai scuba team arrived at the location at 6.45pm and, aided by the Water Rescue Team in Pengkalan Kubor, performed a SAR dive.

"The victim was found at 10.38pm.

"He was pronounced dead by a Thai medical officer and the operations commander handed his body over to the Thai police," read the statement, issued late Monday. – Bernama
