Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider injured in Sabah accident


KOTA KINABALU: A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider was seriously injured due to an accident in Putatan on Monday (April 1).

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said in the 6.50pm accident on Monday,the motorcyclist rammed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle along the Papar-Kota Kinabalu road at a point close to the Bukit Vor roundabout.

“It is learnt that the four-wheel-drive was making a u-turn to Putatan while the motorcyclist was coming towards Putatan from Kota Kinabalu when the accident happened,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 2).

The motorcyclist was thrown to the side along with his bike while his 22-year-old female pillion rider fell.

“The motorcyclist was killed on the spot, while the pillion rider sustained serious injuries to her legs,” said Supt Sammy, adding that the vehicle driver escaped unscathed.

Both the motorcyclist and pillion rider were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further action, he said.

Those with information about this accident are urged to come forward to assist probes under the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.
