Johor poultry farmers yet to receive 'egg allowances' from govt, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Poultry farmers in Johor have yet to receive their "egg allowances" from the government, says Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong.

"I had another meeting with representatives of the Johor Small and Medium Poultry Farmers Association who have been facing various issues that have greatly affected their operations.

"According to its chairman Lim Ka Cheng, many of their members are having cash flow problems and have to bear huge operation costs as they have yet to receive the egg allowance from the government, which was supposed to be distributed to them at the end of 2022.

"Many of them have fulfilled the requirements for the allowance offered by the government but have yet to receive it after waiting for a long time," the MCA president said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 2).

He added that the farmers are urging for a resolution from the government and not to have stricter policies such as the mandatory conversion from an open cage system to a closed house system.

"Such policies will only affect the supply chain of chicken and eggs and the survival of farmers," he said.

Dr Wee added that their feedback will be conveyed to the Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu to ensure that the farmers' welfare is protected.
