Penang JPJ issues 126 summonses in special op on commercial vehicles

BUTTERWORTH: A total of 126 summonses were issued by the Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) to drivers of commercial vehicles for various offences in an operation dubbed Ops Khas Lebih Muatan on Thursday (March 28).

The operation, conducted between midnight and 7am, focused mainly on highways, industrial areas, and major roads.

In a statement on Friday (March 29), JPJ said the operation also targeted overloaded commercial vehicles, as well as non-compliance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

"Action was also taken against 13 vehicles.

"Among the offences (aside from overloading) were driving without a Goods Vehicle Driving Licence (GDL), excessively worn tyres, installing strobe lights without permission, excessive tinting and illegal vehicle modification,” the statement read.

JPJ said consistent and focused enforcement on commercial vehicles would continue to ensure that their drivers and operators complied with the law. – Bernama
