Politician arrested for sexual assault out on bail, Johor cops urge witnesses to come forward

JOHOR BARU: The youth leader of a political party who allegedly sexually assaulted six victims in Mersing has been released on police bail.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said there were no further police reports lodged but urged those with information on the case to come forward.

"As of today (March 25), we still have five reports from six victims.

"We have handed over the investigation papers to the Attorney General's Chambers and are awaiting their instructions," he said when met by reporters after attending the state-level 217th Police Day 2024 celebration at Dewan Dato' Onn here on Monday (March 25).

He added that victims should come forward to lodge a police report so justice could be served for the crime committed against them.

On March 19, Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said that a 36-year-old man had been arrested for sexually assaulting teenagers.

The case is being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent, which carries a maximum of 20 years in jail and whipping if found guilty.
