PETALING JAYA: Opening the door in every police district once every three weeks to meet the public is a very positive step in beefing up policing, says the country’s top cop.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said he is supportive of any initiative that can foster closer ties between the police and the community.
“In fact, I suggested all top officers organise regular meetings and activities that will enable the public to interact and share information in their respective state and police districts.
“Following this, the Meet-the-Customer Day initiative was mooted and subsequently launched by Selangor police on Saturday,” he said when contacted.
Razarudin commended Selangor police for taking the first step to kickstart the initiative. He also encouraged other state police chiefs to follow suit due to the positive feedback from the event held over the weekend.
“These sessions need not be just about complaints against police personnel. They can also be an avenue to discuss other concerns, suggestions or input from the public to help boost our service to the community.
“What I expect to see are to foster closer ties between the public and the police force at all times,” he said.
Razarudin is known to regularly make random and unplanned visits on the ground to check on his personnel and get a first-hand account of what they face daily.
The IGP also travels around unannounced and without fanfare to meet the people to find out their grouses, and often visits former police personnel who are aged or medically unfit to ensure their welfare is taken care of.
