Two volunteers accused of assault at rehab centre

NILAI: Two volunteers at a private drug rehabilitation centre have been detained for allegedly assaulting a 38-year-old inmate.

Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said a woman lodged a report at the Broga station near here on Tuesday alleging that her brother-in-law had been assaulted ever since he registered at the centre three months ago.

“The victim has injuries all over his body and he is now receiving treatment at a government hospital. He is due to undergo surgery soon,” Supt Abdul Malik said in a statement yesterday.

He said the two suspects, in their 20s and 40s, were picked up on Wednesday.

Police also obtained an order from the Magistrate’s Court to remand the suspects until March 24, he added.
