KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate’s ruse of operating from a house that looked like a childcare centre was discovered after police raided the premises.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the raids were conducted in Cheras and Ampang at about 3pm on Tuesday (March 19).
"The first raid was conducted in Cheras, where a 38-year-old man was detained.
"Further investigation led police to a house in Taman Dagang, Ampang, where 213kg of syabu, 90kg eramin 5 pills and 3kg of heroin base were seized.
"The drugs are worth about RM10.8mil," he told a press conference at the KL police headquarters on Friday (March 22).
Comm Allaudeen said the syndicate's modus operandi is to renovate houses to mimic childcare centres with many cartoon drawings on their walls, to avoid detection.
"The syndicate has been active since late last year and rented the house for RM3,000 a month.
"The detained suspect was hired as a drug transporter and he is paid RM20,000 based on the trips he makes.
"We believe the drugs were transported from northern Peninsular Malaysia before the drugs are stored at the house," he said.
Comm Allaudeen said further investigation is being conducted to track down other syndicate members, including the house owner.
"The suspect has been remanded until March 26.
"We urge the public to contact the police on information of any criminal activity, especially drug-related ones," he said.
