PM calls on all leaders to solve problems in respective hometowns

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on Thursday (March 21), called on all government leaders to seek suitable ways and methods to address the problems faced by the people in their respective hometowns.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, believed that such steps could solve half of the issues related to social, financial, and educational issues in rural areas.

"We all must take on this responsibility. I myself begin with Cherok Tok Kun, (my hometown) in Bukit Mertajam (Penang).

"Within this week, I have to contact some friends and even return to my hometown to make sure that all representatives of women, youth, mosque committees, and village committees are doing their job to inform me about any facilities and assistance needed by the people, especially the poor, or about school or drug issues there.

"All these problems must be addressed," he said at the 2024 Malaysia Madani Executive Talk Programme for Civil Servants here on Thursday.

He said that with the high spirits and determination of the government leadership in carrying out their duties, efforts to transform the country into a better and new nation could be achieved in a shorter period.

Anwar said civil servants also needed to perform their duties to the best of their ability to effect changes in the country as quickly as possible.

"Hopefully, with this spirit to carry out our duties, (we) don't need to wait for 10 years; we can change the face of this country in a short period.

"If everyone performs (their responsibilities) their level best, I think in two or three years, we will have a new Malaysia," he said. - Bernama
