Don't win by 'shouting or screaming' against others, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Winning should not be by "shouting or screaming" against others, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"It does not bring any profit or victory through shouting or screaming when insulting others.

"Winning is by way of upholding our integrity, capabilities, outlook and resolve," the Prime Minister said at the Malaysia Madani Executive Dialogue with civil servants here on Thursday (March 21).

Although the rights of Malays, the Malay language and the Malay Rulers were enshrined and protected in the country through the Federal Constitution and laws, Anwar said that it did not mean that those from the minority communities could be insulted or looked down upon.

While the reality was that the Malays were the majority in the country, he noted that the nation was also made up of other races.

"We have to accept that Malaysia has a Malay majority at more than 60% of the population.

"But we also have to accept the reality that we are still a multiracial country," he said.

Anwar added that the minority races must also play their role in ensuring peace and harmony in the country.

He also urged all parties to stop wasting time talking about outdated and trivial issues but focus on developing the nation further.
