Cops nab over 200 individuals during two two-week op in Johor


JOHOR BARU: Police arrests more than 200 individuals, including 23 foreigners, in a statewide two-week operation in Johor.

State police chief Comm M. Kumar said the suspects arrested during the operation held between March 5 and 19 included those involved in vehicle theft, robbery, burglary, and drug offences.

“Focus was given to checking on business premises such as workshops, shops selling vehicle spare parts, second-hand electronics, scraps, and pawn shops.

“Throughout the operation, 196 locals and 23 foreigners were arrested.

"Of the number, 207 are men, while 12 are women,” he said in a statement, adding that the suspects are 22 to 59 years old.

Comm Kumar added that 77 suspects have since been charged in court.

“The suspects were charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, Section 379 of the same Act for theft, Section 457 of the same Act for house break-in, and Section 411 of the same Act for receiving or keeping stolen properties.

"They were also charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing injuries using weapons, Section 426 of the same Act for committing mischief, and Section 186 of the same Act for obstructing civil servants from discharging their duties,” he said.

He added that 38 of the suspects also had actions taken against them under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for repeated drug offences.
