A TEENAGE girl in Tamil Nadu was drowned by her parents for having a boyfriend, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The unnamed 16-year-old girl, who was a Grade 11 (SPM equivalent) student in Krishnagiri, apparently went missing after leaving for a school exam.
After an exhaustive search, her lifeless body was discovered in a lake near their village, prompting her parents to report the matter to the authorities.
However, the ensuing investigation revealed that she was in fact killed by her parents.
It came to light that the girl had been in a relationship with the boy for several years, leading to ongoing conflict with her parents at the time. Two years prior, the couple ran away.
However, they were returned to their families due to being minors.
Despite facing opposition, the girl remained steadfast in her relationship, further infuriating her parents.
In a tragic turn of events, her parents allegedly decided to put an end to the matter by taking her life.
