Five nabbed in Kluang for smuggling RM43,000 worth of subsidised diesel

KLUANG: Five men were arrested by the police for smuggling 19,000 litres of diesel worth RM43,000 during a raid in Kampung Pisang, Machap, here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the raid was made at 10pm on March 18 by the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA).

“All of the suspects, aged between 28 and 57 years old, failed to produce any documents for possessing, storing, or carrying controlled goods without a permit or licence from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KDPN).

“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 for storing diesel at an unlicensed site,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (March 20).

The police have also confiscated a lorry, six IBC tanks, eight pumps, and a diesel fuel tanker. All confiscated items, including the diesel, are worth RM130,000.

All of the confiscated items have been handed over to KPDN officers for further action.

“Those with information on such cases are urged to call the IPD Kluang Hotline at 07-7766822,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johor Domestic Trade director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said all of the suspects have been released on police bail after their statements were recorded.

“We have opened up one investigation paper under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 and will start the legal process soon,” she said.
