Female firefighter injured after touching live wires while putting out Manggatal blaze


KOTA KINABALU: A woman firefighter was injured when she came into contact with some live wires while putting out a fire at a Manggatal house on Wednesday (March 20).

Samantha Echa Sigah, 36, collapsed and was rushed to the hospital for treatment after the incident at around 10.30am, said Lintas Fire and Rescue chief Agustavia Joe Guasi.

“The firefighter is reported to be in a stable condition and is getting the treatment needed,” she said when contacted.

She said prior to the incident, firefighters had received a distress call about the burning house at Kampung Keliangau 2 Menggatal at 10.05am.

Agustavia said the fire station was about 10km from the scene.

“Upon arrival, we saw that a house, a small workshop as well as three vehicles were on fire,” she said.

She said the flames were brought under control at around 10.44am.

The injured firefighter was given preliminary treatment on site before she was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II for further treatment, said Agustavia.

Also present were policemen and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) officials.

No other injuries were reported from this fire.
