Cops on the hunt for suspects in baby dumping case in Johor


JOHOR BARU: Police are on a hunt to find the suspects behind a baby abandoned on the stairs of an apartment in Taman Daya, here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 8.30am on March 11.

“The baby girl has been handed over to Hospital Sultan Ismail until March 19 before being handed over to the Welfare Department.

“The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for intentionally abandoning a child, which carries up to seven years' jail and a fine,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (March 20).

“We are calling out for public cooperation on the matter; those who have information regarding the case are urged to call the IPD Johor Baru South Hotline at 07-2182323,” he added.

Meanwhile, Johor women's family and community development committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail informed us that the baby is currently in the care of the Welfare Department.

“We have also received a court order to legally take care of the baby,” she said.

Earlier, a Facebook user named ‘Desh Highcam’ posted a picture and a video of a baby placed on a stair at an apartment in Johor Baru.
