Cops nab 12 during raid on cockfighting ring in Kuala Kangsar


IPOH: Twelve people have been arrested in a raid on a cockfighting ring in Kuala Kangsar.

Kuala Kangsar OCPD Asst Comm Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the raid was conducted on March 17 at about 4.45pm.

He said the raid under "Ops Dadu" was carried out by the Perak Police Contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department (D7).

"All the 12 men arrested are aged between 32 and 64 years old, and are believed to be involved in cockfighting.

"Fourteen roosters were seized while RM5,852 believed to be betting money was also confiscated," he said in a statement on Monday (March 18).

ACP Omar Bakhtiar said police also confiscated among others canvas cloth, 20 iron rods, spurs, and cages.

He said the suspects had been remanded for three days until March 20.

The case he said was being investigated under Section 7 (2) of the Gambling Act 1953 for gambling in the public area, Section 32(1) (a) and Section 32(2) (a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
