Teen pillion rider dies in collision with lorry in Iskandar Puteri, another injured


ISKANDAR PUTERI: A teenager was crushed to death after the motorcycle she was on collided with a lorry at KM33 of the Johor Baru - Gelang Patah road here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Supt Ibrahim Mat Som said police were alerted about the two-vehicle accident at about 3.40pm on Friday (March 15).

"The accident was believed to have happened when the motorcycle crashed into a lorry that was making a left turn.

"The collision caused the two victims on the motorcycle to fall off the vehicle.

"The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old woman, had her legs crushed while her 17-year-old pillion rider sustained serious injuries to her," he said in a statement here.

He said that the 17-year-old woman died at the scene while the motorcyclist was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatments.

"The lorry driver, a 41-year-old man, was not injured," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

Supt Ibrahim also urged those with information about the incident to contact the Iskandar Puteri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department at 07-510 1322.
