SIBU: A woman has been fined a total of RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here on Friday (March 15) after she pleaded guilty to two charges of child abuse.

Judge Marutin Pagan also ordered the accused, Selimah Bilon, 54, to put up a bond of good behaviour for three years by depositing RM5,000 in one surety. The accused was also ordered to undergo community service for 100 hours.

Selimah, who was the guardian of the 14-year old, was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for the two offences

According to the facts of the case, the accused had at about 8.30pm on Jan 27, caused injury to the victim by slapping her face, punching her on her right chest, and pulling her hair in the kitchen of a longhouse in Song.

For the second offence, the accused had, at about 8.35pm the same day, slapped the victim's right body and scratched her neck and forehead in the living hall of the same longhouse.

Police investigations revealed that the accused had abused the victim as she (victim) ignored her order not to venture into their neighbour's house, as well as asking for RM50 as schooling aid from her.
