Sabah cops nab woman over fake firearms

KOTA KINABALU: A woman has been arrested for possession and sale of imitation firearms in Sabah’s southwestern Papar district, about 40km from here.

A team from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) nabbed the 37-year-old suspect after raiding a shop in the town district at 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said they found 12 fake weapons after checking the shop.

Among the imitation firearms seized were an M416 automatic rifle, Airsoft Gun Combat Master, Airsoft Gun Glock, Airsoft Gun 731B, M17, C11, and Airsoft Gun C.1.

He said the woman admitted to owning the items but claimed she was not aware it was an offence to do so.

“The suspect said she sold the items there due to high demand.

“This is a stern reminder: possession of fake firearms is unlawful and the authorities will take action, no matter what the excuse is for having such items,” said SAC Azmi.

He added that the woman was being investigated under Section 36 of the Firearms Act 1960 for possession, sale and purchase of imitation weapons.
