74-year-old missing woman found dead in Beaufort


KOTA KINABALU: Authorities on Friday (March 15) found the body of a 74-year-old woman who went missing in the forested area at a village in Beaufort on Thursday (March 14).

The body of Kamariah Sungkim was found 1.7km from her house in Kampung Binunuk there, said the Fire and Rescue Department.

A call was received at 10am reporting the concern that the senior citizen may have gotten lost in the forest nearby when she went out at 9.30am on Thursday (March 14) with the intention of going to her orchard.

"They (family members) realised she did not return home that evening.

"After conducting a search with the police, Civil Defence Force and civilians, the victim was found by authorities at 2.52pm and was declared dead on site by the police.

"Her body was handed over to the police for further actions and the operation ended at 3pm," said the Department spokesman.
