Woman behind viral video claiming police extortion in KL urged to come forward

KUALA LUMPUR: The individual who recorded a video claiming police were extorting money from foreigners at Sri Hartamas has been urged to come forward to assist in investigations.

City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department was conducting an internal investigation into the video.

"We are conducting an internal investigation. The policemen filmed have also been identified.

"That said, the video being circulated only shows policemen walking about.

"There is no evidence of a crime being committed caught in the video," he said when contacted.

He said no one has come forward to lodge a police report since the video went viral.

"She should come forward and lodge a report immediately," he said.

In the 25-second video that has been circulated, a woman's voice can be heard saying that she witnessed two police personnel members demanding money from foreigners.

"Tan Sri, these officers "pow" (demand money) from Bangladeshis in front of my own eyes" she is heard saying before focussing her camera on their motorcycles' number plates.

She goes on to say that these types of policemen sullied the image of the police force.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the city police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
