Trader who threatened policeman fined RM3,500

BAHAU: A scrap metal seller was fined RM3,500 in default three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for criminal intimidation.

Krisnan Bathumalai, 56, did not contest the charge after it was read to him before magistrate Norshazwani Ishak.

He was charged with threatening to shoot auxiliary policeman Muhamad Hafiz Iskandar at about 7.15pm on Jan 28, 2023, at a sentry post at a plantation here.

Besides threatening to burn down the post, the accused also allegedly hurled expletives at the auxiliary policeman and threatened to harm his family.

Krisnan was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both upon conviction.

DPP Farahidah Zool Beri asked the court for a sentence that would act as a deterrent to others.

In mitigation, counsel for the accused, Paul Krishnaraja, asked for a minimum fine as his client was remorseful and a first time offender.
