JOHOR BARU: Twins Sanam Kaur and Roshan Singh are glad that they have each other to share the “back to school” excitement as they embark on their secondary school life together.

The siblings, who entered Form One when the 2024-2025 academic year started in Johor yesterday, are looking forward to learning new things in school.

“We were quite excited to start our first day of school together. When we started primary school in SK Sri Tebrau, we were placed in the same class in Year One.

“Roshan and I were put in separate classes from Year Two until Year Five but thankfully we were reunited again in Year Six. I hope we will be placed in the same class again at our secondary school,” said the 13-year-old girl when met at SMK Sultan Ismail (SSI) here yesterday.

Their mother Sukhjit Kaur, 45, said the twins have always been inseparable since they were born on Nov 11, 2011.

“To get ready for secondary school, they started online tuition classes during the month-long school holiday to brush up on their English, Science and Geography.

“We also had a family holiday in Kuala Lumpur to let them enjoy their break before going back to school,” said the bank manager.

Another student, Fiona Poon Jia Yu, who was previously from SJKC Foon Yew 2, said she also got a head start by going for Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics and Science tuition since January to prepare herself for secondary school.

“My parents wanted to help me cope with my studies and I do feel more confident about going into Form One with some foundational knowledge,” she said.

Poon added that SSI is not an easy school to get into and she aims to perform well and make her parents proud.
