IPOH: Selangor has agreed in principle to adopt the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act (Act 672), says Nga Kor Ming.
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the Ministry was only waiting for a final decision from the state government.
"Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafudin Idris Shah granted me an audience where His Majesty said he consented to adopting the Act," he said at a press conference after launching the Jalan Hospital Flats Community Carnival here on Sunday (March 10).
"We are waiting for a decision from the Selangor state government to start discussions in detail," he said, adding that talks are also actively being carried out with the Penang government.
Act 672, which was enacted to regulate the management of controlled solid waste and public cleansing, would see the separation of solid waste at the source into recyclables and non-recyclables.
It is currently used in Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Nga said the ministry would also welcome negotiations with Perak to adopt the Act.
"We will welcome continued discussions for a strategic partnership between the federal and state governments for the people's benefit. It is up to the state to make a stand, and we will respect it. Our doors are always open," he added.
