Muhyiddin: Bersatu to submit amendment tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu will submit the amendment to its constitution, which could affect the status of seven of its elected representatives, to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) tomorrow, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We have received a date from the ROS (to submit the amendments) at 10am on Monday (tomorrow). (Opposition leader) Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, myself and other members of the leadership will submit the amendment finalised during the recent Bersatu special meeting,” he told reporters after a convention for Perikatan Nasional elected reps in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Bersatu is one of three parties in the Perikatan coalition. Also present at the press conference were PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau.

On March 2, Bersatu amended Clause 10 of its constitution to automatically nullify the membership of any of its elected reps who support the Opposition coalition’s rivals.

Muhyiddin, also the Bersatu president, expressed hope that the amendment would be given a fair consideration and receive approval from the ROS.

Separately, Hamzah said MPs had the right to lodge any report on corruption on their own time.

This follows a claim made in the Dewan Rakyat by Bersatu’s Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who said he was offered a bribe to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should understand that we have Act 345, following that MACC should not interfere by telling (the MPs) to report within a week or two,” Hamzah said.

“He (Wan Saiful) has the right to report (to the MACC) at any time and when the time is right, he will lodge the report,” he added.Wan Saiful made those claims in the Dewan Rakyat last week, saying that he was offered RM1.7mil and promised his court cases would be cancelled in return for supporting the unity government.Following those claims, MACC gave Wan Saiful a week to lodge a report over his claims.
