TRADERS desperate for capital to set up stalls in Ramadan bazaars are re-selling or pawning their gold jewellery, reported Kosmo!
The pieces of jewellery being re-sold are not just rings, bracelets and necklaces, but small items like tiny hooks as small as 0.2g.
A gold trader and pawnshop owner, who only wished to be known as Aishah, 42, said she had seen a 70% increase in the sale of gold jewellery since February.
She said in that month, she had bought a total of 3kg of gold worth around RM687,000.
“Just imagine that in one day, some 110g of gold worth RM30,000 is bought from about 20 Ramadan bazaar traders or stall owners,” she said, adding that many of the items were wedding gifts.
“Some are so desperate for daily funds to buy foodstuff like chicken, fish and beef that they would even sell 0.2g of gold for RM50,” she said.
> Harian Metro reported that former Indonesian rock band Dewa 19 vocalist, Once, would not be singing songs he once recorded with the group at the “Konsert Trio Terhebat” in KLCC next month.
Once, whose real name is Elfonda Mekel, said his relationship with the group’s singer-songwriter, Ahmad Dhani, was still good.
“It’s just that we haven’t had a chance to meet, especially on issues relating to copyright and creative matters,” he said.
It was reported that Ahmad issued an official warning last April for Once not to sing Dewa 19 songs during his concerts.
With hits like Separuh Nafas, Pupus, and Cinta Gila, the group was known as one of the greatest rock bands in the history of Indonesian pop music.
Formed in 1986, the group had seen changes to its line-up, leading to disbandment in 2011 before regrouping in 2019 for reunion shows.
