KUALA LUMPUR: The former political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador, has filed suit against the Machang MP over allegations that he had bribed and threatened several parliamentarians to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The writ of summons was filed through Messrs Ahmad Daniel, Ruben & Co at the High Court registry on Jan 22.
In his statement of claim, Farhash alleged that Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Kamal had uttered defamatory statements against him at a press conference in Parliament on Nov 14, 2023.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal allegedly said the plaintiff, through someone known as “Datuk Botak”, had offered bribes and threatened other Opposition MPs to influence them to support the government of the day.
The Bersatu youth chief also allegedly spoke to the media about a viral video linked to the plaintiff where the defendant had implicated the plaintiff with baseless accusations that were untrue.
“At the press conference, the defendant repeatedly referred to the viral video with the intention of using the platform to spread the video without checking its source and facts,” Farhash said in his statement of claim.
According to Farhash, the defendant made the defamatory statements for his own political gain, to provoke and incite public hatred against him (Farhash), as well as to manipulate and destroy his reputation.
Farhash is seeking a court injunction to stop the defendant or his agents from repeating or republishing the libellous statements, to remove or delete the statements from social media, and to issue a public apology.
He is also seeking unspecified general damages, RM10mil in special damages, aggravated damages and exemplary or punitive damages, interests, costs and other reliefs deemed fit by the court.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal is represented by Messrs Chetan Jethwani & Co.
