Cops rescue kidnapped Chinese national, arrest four in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: A 30-year-old Chinese national who was allegedly kidnapped was rescued following the arrest of four men.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the ransom of RM277,886 was also recovered following the arrests.

"We received a report from the victim's wife that her husband had been kidnapped at about 6pm on Thursday (March 7).

"A task force was immediately set up to investigate the case.

"Police managed to arrest four men, three of whom are Chinese nationals, as well as rescued the victim, who is a restaurant owner, in Bukit Jambul," he told reporters on Friday (March 8).

Khaw said the victim was unharmed but was exhausted when rescued.

It is learnt that the victim, who is also a Chinese citizen, was taken from a hotel in Georgetown and rescued in a house in Bukit Gambir.

Khaw said the suspects, aged between 32 to 40, have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

Declining to divulge further pending investigations, Khaw said police are still tracking down three other Chinese suspects and are investigating the motive behind the kidnapping.
