Babysitter's husband detained for alleged sexual assault of five-year-old girl

AMPANG: A 55-year-old man was detained for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl at a house in Pandan Indah here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect is the babysitter's husband, and the incident allegedly occurred at the babysitter's house.

"We received a report from a woman on Feb 29, alleging that her eldest daughter was sexually assaulted at their babysitter's house.

"Her youngest daughter, who witnessed the incident, claimed that the suspect kissed the victim's cheeks before taking her hands and putting them on his private parts," he said in a statement on Friday (March 8).

The victim's mother confronted the babysitter about the incident, and the latter denied it and asked the mother to keep it a secret as she has other children under her care, he said.

"We detained the suspect at Pandan Indah at about 10.50pm on March 4.

"The suspect tested negative for drugs, but he has a prior criminal record," he said.

The suspect has been remanded until Monday (March 11), he said.

"We are investigating under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017," he said.
