Duo deny stealing spree in Port Dickson

SEREMBAN: A couple claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here to four counts of committing theft at separate locations in Port Dickson.

Amirul Mu’minin Mustaff and his wife Nor Asedah Zaidi, both 38, from Masjid Tanah in Melaka, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to them before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

For the first charge, both the petty traders were jointly accused of stealing an iPad and a mobile phone belonging to a 31-year-old man at a parking lot at Pantai Batu 8 in Teluk Kemang.

They allegedly committed the offence between 1pm and 4.30pm on Jan 20.

The duo were also charged with stealing a Hewlett Packard laptop belonging to a 22-year-old woman at another parking lot at Batu 8 on Jan 27.

For the third charge, the couple allegedly used the ATM cards of the same victim as well as of another 28-year-old woman to withdraw cash from a machine at a petrol station along Jalan Pantai.

This caused the women to suffer losses totalling RM3,052.

These offences were allegedly committed between 11.30am and 2pm on the same day.

For the final charge, they allegedly stole a Sony camera and lens belonging to a 25-year-old man in front of a bungalow in Blue Lagoon in Teluk Kemang on Feb 4.

They were charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same legislation, for all four charges.

Offenders can be jailed up to seven years or fined, or both, upon conviction.

Syed Farid then set bail totalling RM10,000 for both the accused and fixed March 26 for next mention.

Nadia Izzati Mohd Zainal prosecuted while the couple was represented by Iwana Sakinah Mohd Lajis from the Legal Aid Bureau.

It was earlier reported that police had detained six suspects for committing theft in the resort town.

The suspects would steal items by smashing the car windows or forcing open the doors of vehicles parked in the area.
