JOHOR BARU: A senior citizen was caught on the wrong side of the law after driving against the traffic flow at KM13.1 along the Second Link highway here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin said police received information about the viral video of the incident on Facebook at around 9.15pm on Sunday (Feb 25).

“In the 60-second clip, a silver-coloured compact car was seen being driven dangerously against traffic.

“Based on the information, police arrested a 74-year-old man at around 10.49am on Monday (Feb 26) in Taman Nusa Bayu near Gelang Patah,” he said.

ACP Rahmat added that based on the investigation, the suspect, who was driving alone, claimed he was from Segamat, and it was his first trip into Johor Baru to visit his friend’s house at Taman Nusa Bayu.

“He claimed that he was unfamiliar with the roads in Johor Baru and took a wrong turn before ending up against the traffic flow.

“The suspect has since been released on police bail,” said ACP Rahmat, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
