Cops nab 'mat rempit' in special op along Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway


PETALING JAYA: The police nabbed several “mat rempit” in a special Bukit Aman-led operation at the Senawang toll plaza and along the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway from Saturday to the early hours of Sunday.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 25) that seven motorists were caught riding recklessly and two more were arrested for illegal modifications to their number plates.

He added that the illegal modifications were done to avoid detection by the authorities.

“All caught were aged between 16 and 24 and have been brought to the Seremban police district headquarters' traffic station for further action under Section 42 (1) and Section 108 (F) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” added Comm Mohd Azman.

Comm Mohd Azman then said that investigations showed the arrested motorists were from Klang Valley.

"They used the highway as a route to a restaurant that was within the Bandar Senawang area," he said.

Comm Mohd Azman said that six officers and 68 rank-and-file policemen were dispatched on the operation, and added that 101 summonses were issued along with the nine arrested.

Of the 101, 20 were for vehicles lacking number plates.

Comm Mohd Azman said that the police will not compromise on road menaces, and that traffic operations are constantly being conducted.
